My son is graduating BCT in 2 weeks then on to Ft. Rucker to WOCS. He indicated that there are possibility two manuals that they mainly utilize at WOCS and he was wondering if they were available to him before going to Rucker, and if so where we might be able to obtain them. He just wanted to get a head start. Thanks for any assistance.

I don't think there is anything about WOCS that warrants studying before you get there. Best thing to do is probably study PT. Lately I have heard that a lot of dirtbags can't pass the PT test to start school, but I don't really know, I haven't been there for awhile.

One book: The WOC Guide. "Technical Manual" for WOC school.

No, you can't get it before you get there. There's no "studying" for WOC school, except echoing the above. Tell him to study PT.

LOTS of running.

Just soak up all he can from BCT, they kinda target the HS to flight school guys to see if they have the gumption to stay with it. Have him link up with a former NCO to get the drill and ceremony thing down and how the Army really is. Also PT is a good thing.

He will recieve a copy of the WOC Guide (WG) just prior to starting WOC school. Honestly, there is no way to "study" for WOCS, and the course has changed a bit in the recent months, for example: Dining Rights--- Gone
IQI or CI-------- Gone

I sat down and had a chat with one of my old TAC's at the chow hall last week, and he insisted that the course has changed for the better.

I guess after all the years of people bitching and moaning, they are trying to make WOCS more like OCS, orientated to the "leadership" aspect instead of The sock rolling expert. Personally, i think it is a better idea. And to answer your question, I saw a WOC guide on EBAY. Selling price.... $250.00. I dont know if it is still on there... Good luck

Maybe they should have taught us proper table etiquette, instead of the made up dining rights.

A friend of mine just got out of WOCS last week. He insists that it was easy and that the only people who got setback were the ones who cheated on the land nav course. He said they had 2 eliminations...which we had none in my class a year ago, but we had people setback for petty things.

Good to hear the silly chit is going away.
WOCs should be taught something about being leaders and Warrant Officers, not just doing dining rights, and getting harassed for 6 weeks.
The old days are gone, I hope, of the "it sucked when I went through, so it'll suck for you" mentality. Sure that made it a tough course to graduate when a TAC says "you're gone" for silly stuff, but did it make the Warrants going though any better? Did it really weed out the turds?
I heard there is an FTX now, too.

Heard from an unreliable source that going to WOCS garners you a $10k bonus now...something that was just implemented within the last month possibly...any truth to this? If this is total bull shit please stare at the avatar and accept it as my apology for wasting your time.

I think the easier it gets the more it cheapens the accomplishment at the end. One of the proudest days of my life was when I pinned on WO1 after 60 weeks as a WOC. Now you may as well just pick it up at the soldier service center when you inprocess. I think there is something to be said for seeing how bad you want it.

I don't know about the $10k bonus. Haven't heard that one yet (other than here, obviously).
The reserves are offering a $6,000 bonus for OCS and WOCS.
I'm not sure about the OCS, but the WOCS is 6 years for the $6k, the time starts upon completion of WOBC (which reservists have up to 2 years after WOCS to complete).

I say lets just make WOC school a correspondence course. If you can complete the course overseas with the Army's optempo, then you "really" want it.
Whatever, it will always be harder when the older guy went through, and it will never do what it is supposed to do.
WOC school reminds me alot of my childhood......alot of supressed memories. (and no, I'm not Catholic)

If someone bought a WOC guide for $250, they should be eliminated. Not for trying to get over, for being stupid.

That 10K bonus IS in effect, but only for regular OCS at this point.

Don't count on WOCS peeps getting it.

Getting a WOC guide early is a clear integrity violation. Things change at Rucker day to day but I hope that eliminating integrity violators isnīt one of them.

I never would have thought that you would have to entice someone with a bonus to get them to go flying!

hmmm, how to put this delicately?? I am still a realtively new warrant but i know that things have gotten even easier since i went through and that is saying something cuz it wasn't that difficult then! It seems like everyone is always looking for the easy way out. If you want to do something you will do it, if you have to find short cuts then you probably don't want it as bad as you think you do. If you think it's too hard now or want it to change talk to one of the guys who went through as a candidate the ENTIRE time they were in flight school, they are the ones who have the right to complain about how things are now. WOCS is no where near the challenge it should be and if you need help to get through it now you shouldn't be there in the first place!

Maybe I have posted this question incorrectly, and if I have I'm sorry to everyone, and on behalf of my son. He was not looking for an easy way out or to find a short cut, he's every dedicated and focused in what's he's doing and looks forward to his next goals and challenges in doing his best, which is WOCS, then flight. Again sorry if I gave the wrong impression.

Shane are you still at Ft. Drum?

What Level of challanging are you talking about? It isnt like your going SFAS or something. I think the theory of making a Warrant Officer has been a right of passage since its entirety. All of the "Old Timers" who say I went through the last hard class" only want to put soldiers through the torture that they endured. Lets make something positive about it and making it a LEARNING ENVIRONMENT. I felt when i went through it was complete bullshit. BNCOC takes the Cake

It looks like the "WOCS SOP" is the new WOC Guide, and you can download it on the website.
