View Full Version : What are you playin?

I read the latest game zines and they all tout this game or that one. I always just sort of buy what others like. However, I hate to buy a game and win within two days just to find that replaying it is worthless.

So my real question is; Regardless of its age, what computer game do you play the most?

KevinGra
26 May 05, 03:45
Half-life 2 is a great game, the best one imo. It also has a multiplayer which can be quite addictive.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is a fun role-playing game. Looooong. You'll certainly get your moneys worth there.

I wasted the most time playing Delta Force Land Warrior's multiplyer. Graphics are nothing special, but the gameplay is simple while being fast-paced and challenging at the same time.

Currently trying to figure out Aces High. Looks good so far, and it's free! See threads in this forum for more information.

I got Far Cry recently, and it's a pretty challenging game - finished it on Novice - now trying to work through on Expert - there are many different branches to the game from the novice run vice the expert run - I like it. Search and Rescue 3 is a pretty good game

This is a realistic game developed by the army. It is free and each game is very different. Hundreds of maps and great training for potential troops.

It was developed and paid for by the Army Recruiting Command.

I know this is about PC games, but if anyone has an XBOX, "Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30" is a great WWII ground combat RPG, which follows fairly accurately the D-Day invasion. Squad based. Historically accurate maps. Outstanding game. If you like Band of Brothers, you will love this game.

Highly recommended.

Sure those others have nice gfx, but I get tired of running down "ALLEYS" tripping the event triggers...

I've been playing Ultima Online for 7 years; yes 2nd class graphics don't bother me. Unfortunately deployments tend to cut into my bandwidth/gaming time. I am just looking for a single person game that is worthwhile. I played Civ II till my eyes crossed.
Unfortunately most of the suggestions so far are online games, any Single player games that have caught your fancy?

Okay if you are a Star Wars buff and do not mind paying the 15 bucks a month.( I started with a free trial but the game is so addicting I figured I could give up 15 bucks of beer a month)
Then I would highly recommend Star Wars galaxies, 3rd person RP game but a very and I do mean very addicting game. Well worth the money. I know the PX sold the core game for 18 bucks and the expansion for another 18 the third expansion is 24 and downloadable. It does not require the expansions to play the game.

Also one last note the graphics are amazing. !!

Just picked up Battlefield 2! Big time score there!

Great game, VERY nice graphics. Online play is still a little shaky. My guess is a patch is forthcoming to fix that issue. But overall a great game.

Be advised, check the mimimum requirements. My machine just met minimum... so I bought an Alienware Aroura to get around that minor inconvience :D

SLI technology capable of handleing 2 vid cards (I only got one 256 MB card), 2GB RAM, its only a 2.8 processor but makes up for it with a 2000MHZ front side bus. Expected delivery of 5 Jul. I think the power grid will dim when I turn it on:rockon:

Quake III Arena used to be somewhat of a religion for me. If it wasnt for that game, I never would have skipped 8 o'clock classes, and subsequently have joined the Navy before graduating. Haha. Ok, it wasn't entirely the game's fault. But that thing definitely leaves you a little exhausted afterwards and demands a tremendous amount of skill to be successful online, I've seen a lot of games and that's my first recommendation, just because it is balls to the wall intense!

Been playin BF2 for about 2 weeks... the first patch that came out seemed to fix a lot of glitches. Also, if you use the filters in the in-game multiplayer menu (ie: ranked, populated, no password, etc) the whole list seems to be better. The 0 pings go away, and unless you wind up on a ranked server that someone is running out of their home, they all seem to keep up pretty well. Just make sure that you upgrade your video drivers properly, and it helps if you have the minimum requirements on your system. don't try playing if you only have 512mb of ram and a 64 mb video card. i have 2 gigs of ram, and a 128mb vid card, and it works just fine (with the video set to low on all options of course) 256 would be nice, but i'm holding out for the 512... don't quite have 700 bones saved up for that upgrade just yet. if only the helo's were as easy to fly as they were in bf vietnam, this would be the greatest game ever

JeffK
28 Jul 05, 00:23

CAV AO
28 Jul 05, 08:18
Check your video card. 128mb AGP video card might stop that, plus the more RAM the better!

JeffK
28 Jul 05, 17:16
Well my video card is a 6600GT 128mb, so it is probably the ram because that card is supposed to be pretty good.

CAV AO
28 Jul 05, 17:48
Yeah, good card. Something you might want to also think about. The more software on your hard drive the harder it has to work and can slow down the operation of some programs. Also if you have a lot of programs working in the background that will also slow down the system.

i know this was posted quite a while ago, but did you get your bf2 figured out jeff? my computer doesn't use even 1/3 of the
2gigs of ram i run when i'm playing. i use the nvidia geforce 5200 fx (128mb) and i never have a problem unless i'm just playing on a $#!tty server. maybe you need a processor upgrade or a better internet connection. i'd need to know more about your machine and internet service to give any kind of decent advice.

JeffK
17 Oct 05, 00:23

I feel your pain... XBOX 360 w/ Call of Duty 4 online and work is getting in the way of what I like to do. Then my 17 year old daughter keeps snagging my game and playing online also. I may have to get another XBOX 360...:angryfire:

Rock Band for 360. Noise complaints from the neighbors, broken kick pedal from playin drums a little too hard, wife looses her voice from singing, friends falling over breaking stuff with the guitar from being drunk. I love this game!

Twilight Princess took me 62 hours of game play to beat, and I tried to stay off the side tasks and fishing up at the fishing hole.

I have been playing Microsoft Flight Simulator X lately. There are a lot of free helicopter addons such as Apache's, Cobra's, and OH-6's. No D model Kiowa's yet but the 206B is a default aircraft. You can also fly like in real life using VATSIM. http://www.vatsim.net

I have the TrackIR head tracking system so it makes this game much, much more realistic. http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/

Also check out ArmA: Armed Assault / Combat Operations. http://www.atari.com/us/games/armed_assault/dvd_rom

I've gotten bored with FSX, not enough helo support the search and rescue mission in the 206 was rather entertaining, but flying approaches in a 747 after 10 minutes/5 hours of auto pilot isnt my idea of fun.

I think I'm gonna have to go "buy" the new lock-on.

Just picked up Frontlines -Fuel of War for the 360 yesterday. Great game, but beat it in 5 hours. The drone feature is great. Especially the little UAV helicopter with rockets. I think this will be a great online game though.

3 Games to suck the life out of my free time...

ET:QWs (Enemy Territory: Quakewars) (http://www.enemyterritory.com/) - Classbased FPS set in a not so distant future. Features objective based gameplay (like RTCW or ET). Developed by Splash Damage, Produced by Id Software and Distributed by Activision.

Savage 2 (http://savage2.s2games.com/movies/25_medium_28.html) - Classbased FPS featuring a fantasy vs technology setting. Game has elements of FPS, RTS, and RPG genre all in one. - Free Download and LAN play (http://savage2.s2games.com/main.php).

Sins of a Solar Empire (http://www.sinsofasolarempire.com/) - Space Strategy Game that combines both RTS and Galaxy exploration/conquer features.

My son got Army of Two. He played for about a weekend and then sold it back to the local game store. He said it wasn't that good.

Here's a review from 1UP (http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3166846&p=1). I haven't played it myself but from what I hear its still buggy on the PC and has gameplay very similar to the Battlefield series (lots of capture the flag strats) which I personally don't like.

Halo13
24 Mar 08, 22:23
Sorry, I should have clairifed on the Xbox 360. The game play is a lot like BF2, graphics are about the same as well. I have heard that Frontlines on the PC is bad due to a lot of hacks. Lots of people running around invincible. It is a lot of caputure the flag or checkpoints to be exact. You have to caputre so many checkpoints at a time to be able to move forward and win or just kill the other team so many times, about 200 or so. Its aggrivating when your team doesnt communicate and you keep loosing checkpoints. The only way to communicate is if you make a squad, otherwise its lost commo.

A 14 year old Les Paul thru a 20 year old Marshall amp.

Sounds real good.

(the more I drink, the better I sound. go figure.)
:lookaround:

PS OK, I cheated. I replaced the Celestion speaker in the Marshall recently.
Great punch, great volume, and incredible tone.
INcredible return on that investment.

New is the new old.

I work with the VBS2 fielding teams. VBS2 is ArmA with all the bells and whistles, if any of you get a chance to get to the MTT training at Rucker at the end of Feb, I'll buy the beer.
It has a ton of potential as a teaching tool. It is my job to convince you of the same thing. (plus it's fun as hell)
