I have about 250 dvds and they take up alot of room with the cases. I am looking into getting a Mass Storage dvd changer. 300 or 400 disc. Does anyone have expirience with these or should I just get a big binder to put them in? It looks like Sony makes the best one. Changer or binder....

A friend of mine has one and he likes it. I use the binder method myself.

I'm looking into buying an external hard drive that has A/V plugin, USB, and a remote. They sell them for <$200 for 80GB of MPEG4, AVI, etc... and work just like a dvd player, with no scratched and ruined disks.

The trick is to find a good DVD ripping software and then rip all of my scratched dvds onto the hard disk. (I'm tired of taking dvds on road trips for my kids in the backseat and they get ruined) Anyone have any experience with DVD Ripper or any other software that has mostly been outlawed now?

about the same effect for software, but you have to get the full blown versions not just the stuff that came with the computer. both run about $75 and both have the simple wizards, but personel prefrence is Nero. I also use it for doing backups to a hard drive. check it out here

the biggest kick for me was the fact that roxio always has an extra plug in needed for something and it cost, I have been running some form of nero for over 7 years and I love it. my ultra hint is go to the company websites and check out what they show there for comparison.
hope that helps. and if your going to get a usb hard drive, get at least a 250 gig and get a "SATA" you will see the diffrence

and remember making a back up copy is never illegal, its only when you share.

I believe a company just came out with a USB/Firewire 1 and 2 Terabyte model external hard drives. Google it. I hear they are cheap.

We've had a Sony 300 disc changer now for a few years and no complaints. Uses a key board plug in to log all the cds in and provide a display of what's playing. HOWEVER, we took the extra step of putting all the CDs installed in the changer in a database and printing out a binder full of stuff that lets you locate CDs by title, artist, genre or slot position. Gotta have it if you want to locate a CD for some other use. Also, invested in an IPOD for use walking about and in the car on trips. Little bugger holds a ton of music as well as TV shows, movies, etc that you can download from the Itunes music store. Made the 6 disc player in the car pretty much obsolete.

I have minimal experience with it, but Nero has also been my preference for burning DVDs....

and that's my .02$
